State Health Assessment
The State Health Assessment (SHA) is conducted every five years to review quantitative and qualitative data regarding the health status of Alaskans. The SHA identifies the most important health issues impacting Alaskans and the health improvement needs of the state. This SHA report presents the findings of the most recent assessment and includes a description of Alaska’s demographics, health issues of specific population groups with particular health issues and disparities or inequities, factors that contribute to the state population’s health challenges, and community resources and assets to address health issues.
In 2022, a Photovoice project report was added to the State Health Assessment as a supplemental data source. The Photovoice project was used as an example to demonstrate bringing HA2030 objectives to life through visual images. This project involved youth in the Matsu Valley who participate in MY House activities. The youth were trained in Photovoice technique, took photos that represent what health means to them and captioned them.
